Based on a preliminary survey taken from from the population in Soweto and surrounding in the late 90's it was proved that the bigger part of the inhabitants is unemployed, single parents and not or poorly educated and as such, not able to provide in their basic needs and the needs of their dependants. Children go to school hungry and experience a lack of concentration in performing their schoolwork.

This motivated us to start in 2000 after it became evident that a need existed to help and support the disadvantaged people in Soweto and surrounding areas. It soon became evident that the same need also exist in the inner city surrounding hostels and squatter-camps. We have a mission of maintaining, developping, improving or restoring the human dignity state of children, youth, women, physically disabled and families.

Ever since and unlike others we focus on :

• Child and youth development through assistance in education and skills training
• To empower and promote self-employment for the disadvantage communities through education and skills training.
• To prevent youth from falling prey to criminal activities by promoting arts and cultural activities.
• To help the government in its efforts to support those infected with HIV/AIDS and assist in removing the stigma behind the disease.
• To network and assist groups with the same objectives.
• To assist the poorest of the poor in nutritional needs as far as resources allows.
• To expand the services of the project by means of sub-projects.

The programs and activities are Holistic and touch the lives of the younger generation on all levels; from pre-school, school, after-school as well as at home. This can include the child, his siblings, his parents or his community as described by the diagram below:

THE HOLISTIC APPROACH

When a child attends school, we may help with uniforms, stationary, schoolfees, after-care.

If a fire breaks out in a squattercamp, we might help with food, blankets and clothing.

If the parent is unemployed and unskilled we may provide training oportunities.

If the community is in need of a multipurpose centre we may assist the local community projects.

Through networking we touch the lives of thousands children, their families and their communities.

We are a member of Leadership Foundation Africa and as such promote leadership programs in Urban Ministry.

Our centre became a hub for training programs from Social Services, Health Department, Institute for Urban Ministry and Professional individuals.
